- Lionel Messi will no longer be going to prison
- He has paid up the tax fraud fine - Messi was accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has finally saved himself from going into prison after paying up the sum of £221,000 which is the tax fraud fine.
The Argentine was accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities and was also sentenced to 21-months in jail, but instead of him allowing the bizarre things to happen, Messi has paid up the fine. Messi who is five-time Ballon d’or winner was unlikely to ever spend any time in jail especially as Spanish law decrees any sentence under two years can be served as probation.
He was not the only person accused of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities as his father Jorge was also served similar judgement given to his son, but was later reduced to 15 months. Messi will now be enjoying his honeymoon after marrying his long term girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo in a lavish wedding held in Rosario, Argentina.
